Newcastle-based Origin Tech has secured a multi-million-pound growth investment from BGF as it looks to expand in UK and overseas water markets.
Founded in 2019 by Phil Surtees and John Marsden, the company develops technology that helps water companies tackle leakage more effectively.
Two products
Its AI and satellite-enabled platform, Origin Orbit, aims to let utilities pinpoint leaks within a 30-metre radius. A second product, Origin No Dig, can seal leaks without excavation or precise location data.
Together, they are designed to save water companies time and money, cut carbon emissions and avoid disruption to customers and roads. Since launch, Origin has repaired more than 10,000 leaks and saved over three billion litres of water.
Going international
The company began rolling out its technology overseas last year and says it has seen strong early demand. BGF’s investment will support product development and accelerate those international plans.
BGF has earmarked £400m of a new £3bn five-year commitment for Yorkshire and the North East.
