Newcastle-based Citations.io is getting ready for its first external funding round as it looks to scale its AI search intelligence platform.

The software-as-a-service business was founded by Josh Tulip, who previously ran an agency. It tracks how brands are mentioned, ranked, recommended and cited by AI tools including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity.

The aim is to help businesses understand what happens to their visibility as more online discovery moves away from traditional search results and into AI-generated answers.

Bootstrapped so far

Citations.io has been funded by its own revenue to date. Around 70% of its current customers are in the US, and the company is now putting a founding leadership team in place ahead of the raise.

It also plans to build a stronger operational presence in New York during 2027, while keeping Newcastle as the base for its growth.
