Gosforth-based SmartCarbon, which helps organisations measure, report and reduce their carbon emissions, has been acquired by Berkshire private equity firm TVI Group.

More than a consultancy

Alongside its training and environmental expertise, SmartCarbon has its own software platform. Newcastle City Council already uses its technology to collect emissions data from suppliers.

Founded in 2016, the company also works with Greggs, Durham University, Thirteen Group and University College London Hospitals.

What happens next

TVI plans to accelerate development of SmartCarbon’s carbon calculator and reporting platform, to reduce the administrative burden of carbon accounting for clients.

Founder Anna-Lisa Mills is staying with the business as part of its consultancy team, while former HP executive Ian Whittaker joins as chair.
