National Learning Group, which provides one-to-one online tutoring, has secured a seven-figure investment from the North East Elevate Fund, managed by FW Capital.

The business covers learners from reception age to adults, including GCSE and A-level exam preparation, adult skills training and tailored support. It recently moved into a new office in Gateshead and has its registered office in Hexham.

What the money is for

The funding will support investment in infrastructure, including proprietary software to make its online tutoring easier to use. It will also back an alternative provision centre for children who cannot attend mainstream school, and expansion into more commercial education work.

The company is strengthening its senior team, with Neil Stephenson joining as chairman. Managing director Oliver Batten said the business was experiencing significant growth.

The North East Elevate Fund is part of Mayor Kim McGuinness’s £100m regional investment framework, administered by The North East Fund.
