Developer Muse, Durham County Council and Durham University have signed a Collaboration Agreement to speed up development of Aykley Heads as a hub for investment and innovation.
The site is part of the Durham Innovation District. The agreement follows a joint venture between Muse and the council announced in May, and sets out how the partners will work together.
Already home to major employers
The district includes Durham University Business School, the North East Chamber of Commerce, Durham Constabulary and Waterstons. The Rivergreen Centre is being refurbished as the council’s new headquarters, replacing County Hall, which will be demolished.
Jobs ambition
Council leader Andrew Husband said Aykley Heads would deliver thousands of quality jobs. Muse managing director Phil Mayall said the region’s AI Growth Zone had strengthened County Durham’s innovation story.
