North East entrepreneur Ian Griffiths has secured pre-seed funding and technical support for his new venture, Surff, after winning a place on Theta Network’s inaugural incubator programme.

The place followed a strong finish at Theta’s European hackathon in September.

A fairer data economy

Surff is building a data marketplace focused on transparency, consent and value exchange. Brands will be able to access anonymised, consented behavioural insight, while consumers are rewarded for their contribution.

Griffiths, previously of North East tech firm Whocanfix, says people are increasingly aware that their digital footprint has value, and that they should be able to protect, share and monetise their data on their own terms.

Built on blockchain

Blockchain technology will form a core part of Surff’s infrastructure, providing transparency, auditability and trusted value exchange as the platform grows.
