Jack Parker, chief executive and co-founder of AI healthcare company AIATELLA, was inspired to start the business after his father suffered a heart attack while waiting for his scan to be read.

What it does

The UK-Finnish company has developed technology that can reduce cardiovascular diagnosis time from upwards of 30 minutes to less than three. It targets critical conditions including acute and chronic aortic syndromes, and carotid stenosis, which can lead to stroke.

Tested in the North East

Although AIATELLA is based in Finland, its technology is being clinically evaluated with three North East NHS trusts, Northumbria, Newcastle and Sunderland, comparing the AI tool’s accuracy against cardiologists and radiologists.

Parker grew up in Walker in Newcastle and studied at Northumbria University. He says he chose Northumbria for its hands-on, practical approach, and wants to show how knowledge from the university can be applied to real-world problems.
