Newcastle University has launched Newcastle Innovations, a platform designed to make it easier for businesses, investors and partners to access its research, expertise and commercial support.

The initiative brings the university’s innovation, partnership and commercialisation work together under one brand, with clearer routes into applied research, specialist facilities, workforce development and investment in spinouts.

A response to industry

Director Estelle Blanks said the aim was simple: a clear route into expertise, talent, facilities and partnerships, created in direct response to feedback from industry.

The spinout pipeline

The university currently has 42 active spinout businesses, which have attracted more than £90m of investment over the past two years and created more than 370 jobs.

It already works with organisations including Procter & Gamble, Siemens and Curium Pharma, alongside small firms, scale-ups and public bodies. Programmes linked to the platform include the National Innovation Centre for Data and the Arrow programme.
